Making A Difference In The Community
Along with being a voice for my sources throughout my work, I also like to dedicate my time to helping the community be a better, safer place. Here is an overview of some of my latst community service projects.
Ye Olde Thrift Shoppe
Lady Lake, Florida
In March, I donated some time to Ye Olde Thrift Shoppe, a thrift store where proceeds benefit the UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital Auxiliary Foundation. The Foundation provides scholarships to local students, provides vouchers for free mammograms and raises money for the Mobile Stroke Treatment Unit Fund. Tasks included sorting donations, pricing and customer service.
Writing Notes to Local Students and Seniors
In February, I took some time to write encouraging notes to not only local students but also those living in Senior Living and Memory Care Centers. It was part of our Wellness Wednesdays where we take time to do an activity for our mental health, the mental health of others or just assisting somewhere in the community.
Helping Pack Care Packages for Active Military
At the beginning of the year, I took some time with my work cohorts to work with Operation Shoebox, a nonprofit that packs and sends care packages to active military overseas. Not only did we help pack the boxes, but we also spent time writing them notes thanking them for their service and sending them good wishes.
Red Kettle Campaign — Salvation Army
In December, I volunteered with The Salvation Army of Lake and Sumter Counties during its Red Kettle Campaign. The campaign is an annual holiday fundraiser that runs from Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Eve. The money collected helps fund local food, shelter and social services such as after-school programming and scholarships.
